FROG EYES The Golden River continues on the same theme as their previous record: strange, lengthy song titles, lyrics about townsfolk, mythology, and foxes, as well as their gloomy yet romantically amused instrumentation. The production on this recording finds itself more defined and bolder (a little less heavy on the trebly reverb tank sound of previous) and the songs "brighter sounding" much like their previous outfit, Blue Pine. We can't really compare them to anything: a little Bowie, a little Beefheart, a little These Immortal Souls, and even Victoria's own, now defunct, and criminally underrated Daddy's Hands ...and whatever else seems appropriate. Released summer 2003. CD price: $12.00 ppd CDN. Get BLUE PINE "self-titled" CD FREE w/order. CD: |
